Django a la Creole - Featuring Evan Christopher & Don Vappie
With Sebastien Girardot (double bass); Dave Kelbie (guitar)
An amazing fusion of Gypsy swing, creole and blues with hot syncopations from the streets of New Orleans. Elegant and impassioned, Evan’s style is steeped in the tradition of early jazz masters such as Sidney Bechet, Jimmie Noone, and Barney Bigard. He combines virtuosity, immaculate taste, and enthusiasm with a deep commitment to capturing the full range of musical possibilities that come from having strong roots in the idioms of New Orleans jazz and the Créole clarinet style. He is joined tonight by Don Vappie on banjo and violin, the leader of the legendary New Orleans heritage orchestra the Creole Jazz Serenaders.
“Evan Christopher is not only the greatest clarinetist alive, but one of the greatest of all times” Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records
